During the translation of a text, special consideration has to be given to whom the target audience is going to be. There a number of factors that must be taken into account; differences in culture, sense of humour, age group, use of slang, etc.
All these elements must be figured into the equation in order to ensure that the text is understandable, flows and seems natural. That is why when choosing a translator it is best to pick one that is a native speaker of the language you wish your text to be translated into.
Therefore, it is a great advantage for my clients that I am a native English speaker, combined with my knowledge and experience of the Danish language that I have gained from living and working in Denmark for 20 years.
Occasionally, if you translate directly from one language to another, the meaning of the original text can be lost, or even worse, it takes on a completely different meaning than was intended - see my "Lost in translation" page for some examples that will make you smile.
